Beer brewing in Thailand began in 1933, when Boon Rawd Brewery was founded. German beer brewers were hired and brought over from Europe, bringing with them the necessary knowledge, enabling the creation of the first Thai beer. Nowadays there are several beer breweries operating in Thailand, mostly making light or dark lager. Thai beer is also made of rice, in addition to more traditional grains, and has a slight bitterness and a dry flavor that work great with the hot and spicy food of Thailand. In Thailand, to the amazement of Western tourists, beer is commonly drank with ice cubes in it.
